What can I expect during the test?
The equipment used during arterial testing resembles blood pressure cuffs. This technology is used to obtain blood pressures and estimates of the total blood flow from a limb or part of a limb (such as the thigh, the forearm, a toe, or a finger). During the testing, your blood pressure will be measured at many different intervals along an arm or leg. The blood flow in the arterial system of the head can also be measured using ultrasound. The data from your arterial testing is saved in the computer for analysis by a vascular specialist. There are no after-effects from arterial testing. You may return to your normal activities.
How and when will I get my test results?
Typically, within 48 hours a written report of the test results will be sent to your referring physician, who will review them with you. Additional time (3 to 5 days) may be required if we are comparing these test results to previous findings from other facilities.
Where is the test performed?
Arterial testing is performed at Cayuga Medical Center, 101 Dates Drive off NYS Route 96 in Ithaca.
