All
of our “plain film” X-Ray exams are no longer acquired on
film, but rather are captured digitally throughout the
Cayuga Medical Center Hospital and Imaging Centers. Fully digitized X-Ray
exams are now available on PACS for
the fastest possible viewing.
There is no Film! All images are immediately sent to
the Picture Archiving and Communication System and are
available on computer screens to all the doctors
throughout the Hospital and Ithaca region who need to
have access to them to begin
timely treatment!
The
oldest diagnostic imaging modality is still the first
line screening study and most often used technique
for a broad range of diseases, and is widely used
in critical and emergency care management. For example,
X-Rays are used to diagnose pneumonia and
pulmonary edema in congestive heart failure, lung
cancer, emphysema, kidney stones, abdominal
trauma, ruptured intestines, bone cancer,
fractures and dislocations, to name just a few of
hundreds of examples.
These initial studies are then sometimes followed by CT,
US or MR for further characterization in order to make
the most specific diagnosis.
